Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
A practical, goal-oriented approach to healing
At its heart, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a practical, goal-oriented approach to healing. It is based on a simple but powerful idea: our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all connected.
When we experience trauma or high levels of stress, our brains can get stuck in "negative loops." We might have a thought that leads to a difficult emotion, which then causes us to act in a way that reinforces the original thought.
CBT for Trauma (TF-CBT)
For children, adolescents, and those healing from early trauma, I often utilize Trauma-Focused CBT. This specialized approach provides a safe structure to process difficult memories and helps caregivers and children alike build a "toolbox" of emotional regulation skills.
